A year has past - The first Yartzeit
A year has passed. Last year today we awoke to the shocking news that Johnny died…. Reb Yoinoson Hagodol how I fondly called you we all miss you greatly. Gizeyrah Meis Nishtakech min Halev.. But on the yartzeit we do remember you…
As in your life, the kasovim remain unpublished….In a ironic twist of fate the typed, edited ,ksovim were taken by the DA’s office as evidence in a historic money laundering case, totally unrelated to your life. There they remain..
Maybe one day we will be zoycha to have someone re-type and re-edit the originals>>

Pics of Rebjhonnys Kever
Hi Charley,
I was recently able to visit Reb Johnny’s kever and snapped a couple of snapshots for your vebzytel. They are attached. I must tell you that Johnny was quite a great guy.
I am reminded about how we tried to tackle a virtually impossible paper on Putnam, Wittgenstein (which he insisted on pronouncing as Vitgenshteyn, don’t ask me Y)and Vats and when I asked him how I could ever repay him for his help he said that if anyone ever asked, I should tell them that “that Johnny Abraham, he’s a great guy.” Well needless to say, no one has ever asked because anybody that knew him didn’t need to.

Reb Yoinoson-Some Letters to friends 2000-2003
A Collection of Some Letters Sent By Reb Johnny 2000-2003

Tayyerer Khaver (Dear, Precious Friend),
How R U, man? As usual, it’s too hard for me to write at length- so just a couple of points. What’s this business about Nietzsche not really being a Nietzschean? Nietzsche cultivated his solitude; living alone without love and practically without friendship for years on end. All this for the sake of intense spiritual self-cultivation- the contemplation of the abyss- the affirmation of life even in the face of the complete denial of any objective source of meaning -such as God etc,- Truly- in what way is Nietzsche less than utterly Nietzschean? The Shloishim of Reb Yoinoson Z”L (Reb Johnny Z”L)
30 Days have passed since we recieved the devastating and shocking call informing us of the passing of our dear friend Reb Yoinoson Z”L ( Reb Johnny Z”L).
There were two Shloishim Seudas one at Bais Zeporah this past Sunday, and one at the Reb Johnny’s brothers house in Passaic NJ.
A small Choveres with some Reb Johnny’s divrei torah was handed out to the participants (copies of which will be posted here) and some videos of a shiur on Baba Kamma and Purim 2008 were shown. (We are in the process of transferring the video into digital format for viewing online.)
More details of the two seudas to come….

Splitting Siamese Twins - A Discussion with Reb Yoinoson’s comments
Read the rest of this post »
