Hi Charley,
I was recently able to visit Reb Johnny’s kever and snapped a couple of snapshots for your vebzytel. They are attached. I must tell you that Johnny was quite a great guy.
I am reminded about how we tried to tackle a virtually impossible paper on Putnam, Wittgenstein (which he insisted on pronouncing as Vitgenshteyn, don’t ask me Y)and Vats and when I asked him how I could ever repay him for his help he said that if anyone ever asked, I should tell them that “that Johnny Abraham, he’s a great guy.” Well needless to say, no one has ever asked because anybody that knew him didn’t need to.

The Shloishim of Reb Yoinoson Z”L (Reb Johnny Z”L)
30 Days have passed since we recieved the devastating and shocking call informing us of the passing of our dear friend Reb Yoinoson Z”L ( Reb Johnny Z”L).
There were two Shloishim Seudas one at Bais Zeporah this past Sunday, and one at the Reb Johnny’s brothers house in Passaic NJ.
A small Choveres with some Reb Johnny’s divrei torah was handed out to the participants (copies of which will be posted here) and some videos of a shiur on Baba Kamma and Purim 2008 were shown. (We are in the process of transferring the video into digital format for viewing online.)

איך אדע האם הגעתי להכרה הזו שהכל ממנו יתברך, שהרי אם הייתי מגיע להכרה זו לא הייתי נכשל בשום חטא בעולם, שהרי עיקר החטא נובע מחוסר אמונה בהשי”ת, היות שאם החוטא היה יודע את השי”ת בעת מעשה החטא לא היה החטא מגיע לשלב הביצוע.
ושאלתי היא האם האדם הדוגל בשיטת רבי צדוק ושיטותיהם של כל בעלי הדטרמניזציה,
שאינם מן האנשים השלמים ביותר במעשיהם

מחשבות על תופעת האדמורי”ם
יש לי כמה התחבטויות קשות על תופעת האדמורי”ם ואשמח להיעזר:
1) עצם העברת המלוכה והחסידים (העבדים?) כשושלת. לא ראיתי זאת אצל הבעש”ט והמגיד ממזריטש, וזה מותיר ריח רע מאוד של משאלה פרימיטיבית להשארת השליטה לצאצאים, כמו המלכים המושחתים הקדומים וכיום באפריקה ומדינות ערב. זה מצמרר עוד יותר כשאתה רואה את אקט העברת השליטה לבנים שאינם ראויים כלל, והכל בטירור ובלחץ קהילתי.
2) חיי הרהב של רוב האדמורי”ם. חיי מלך, שליטה, מכוניות פאר, עושר וכסף שמתגלגל. זה פשוט מבחיל. אני לא מבין איך מנהיגים בישראל מתנהגים כך, ועוד יותר אני לא מבין איך אפשר למצוא אצלם נוחם ועידוד: איך בנאדם שאין לו דאגות יכול להבין חסיד שלא גומר את החודש ומתמודד קשות בחייו. הרי אדמו”ר זה, עפ”י רוב, נולד עם כפית זהב בפה, ולא יודע מה זה סבל והתמודדות, אז איך השבע יכול בכלל להבין את הרעב?
חשבתי פעם ש”עולם הזה” יש בטוח לאדמורי”ם, כסף, כבוד, שליטה וכו’, ואילו לרוב חסידיהם אין “עולם הזה” וחיים בקשיים כלכליים ואישיים כאנשים קשי יום. אז לכאורה היה מקום לעשות חלוקה הוגנת: לאדמו”ר יוקדש העולם הזה והחסיד האומלל שאין לו עולם הזה, יקבל את העולם הבא…
אבל מה קורה: האדמו”ר משתלט על העולם הזה והעולם הבא ביחד: גם את העולם הזה הוא לוקח לעצמו מלוא חופניים וגם מתיימר לחלק לחסידיו את העולם הבא… יש גבול לחזירות, לא?…
אני מחדד את זה וכותב את זה קצת ציני, אבל השאלות הללו מהותיות לדעתי. מי מרים את הכפפה?
